The Finnish Forest Museum Lusto
The Finnish Forest Museum Lusto
The Finnish Forest Museum Lusto is a destination for the entire family. The national forest culture museum is located in Punkaharju, in the midst of the most beautiful landscape of ridges and lakes in Eastern Finland.
The biggest internal renovation in Lusto’s 30 years of service was completed in 2024, and the renewed museum opened its doors to the public in May. The new core exhibition is The Land of Forestfulness, a look at the age-old relationship between forests and humanity from six different perspectives. It provides an interactive experience that invites visitors to consider their relationship with nature and add their voices to ongoing conversations regarding it. The annually rotating special exhibitions shed further light on various parts of forest culture.
The Lusto region is an excellent environment for hiking, and it is the perfect year-round setting for culture, nature and conference visitors. You can also reserve Lusto’s versatile facilities and services and book guided tours for exhibitions, ridge area and the nearby Natural Resources Institute Finland’s research forest and arboretum.
Lusto arranges a series of events all year round. The whole family is welcome to observe our rare working methods and cultural nostalgia.
Our museum shop offers a vast selection of high quality Finnish forest-based products from textiles to natural cosmetics and sweet treats.
Lusto is easy to access either by car, bus or train. The Lusto train stop is only about 100 metres from the museum’s entrance.
