Pattoi farmstead

Pattoi farmstead

Pattoi farm is located approx. 10 kilometres from the centre of Juva. Pattoi is a typical wealthy farm of the area with traditional farm buildings.

The buildings of the farm that represent the traditional construction methods of the area are in original condition. In the farmyard there are a weatherboarded main building from the 1860s, a row of storehouses built of two timber frames, a timber building with cross-jointed corners and a granary. There is also a cowshed built of stone and a twostoried stable with cross-jointed corners. Located off the farmyard are a smithy, a sauna and a threshing barn. The buildings are surrounded by fields which have remained open, bounded by fences with a stone foundation for a distance of 1.6 kilometres. The tree stand of the estate is mostly old and large timber forest.

Pattoi was owned by the Nikulainen family from the early 1800s to the 1990s. After the last representative of the family passed away the farm was passed to the State Treasury. Juva municipality acquired the ownership of the farm in 2004. Its aim is to preserve the farm and reconstruct it as a museum.

The Pattoi estate was renovated through different projects in 2005–2010. Juva municipality together with the Juva Museum and Local Culture and Heritage Association is responsible for the project. So far the objects, buildings and other constructions of the farm as well as the plants have been catalogued, and buildings and walls have been restored. The tradition and history of the farm have been unravelled with the help of archives as well as interviews. This material will be adapted into a publication which introduces the phases of and the life on the Pattoi farm. The project continues by drawing and executing the museum and exhibition plans.
