Mikkeli Art Museum

Mikkeli Art Museum was opened in 1970 as the Johannes Haapasalo Museum. The name was changed to the Mikkeli Art Museum in 1976, following the donation of the Martti Airio collection to the museum. The art museum was named the South Savo Regional Art Museum in 1981. From the beginning of 2020, the Mikkeli Art Museum will be responsible for the regional art museum mission in the South Savo region.

Mikkeli Art Museum provides a wide range of services connected with the visual arts in South Savo. It researches, documents and displays art from the region. The museum arranges 5–6 changing exhibitions every year. In addition to organising exhibitions, the art museum also looks after and adds to the art collections in its possession, and one important objective is to collect and display Finnish illustration art. The art museum also offers an interactive and experiential learning environment for various workshops and art education projects.
